Just a couple of days after the new feature was revealed, I found that the POP option was available in my Gmail account. However, it seems that most main stream free email service providers do not provide (or never provide good) POP and SMTP services. More and more people tend to like the web interface more, which is more convenient, fast and understandable.
Nevertheless, Google likes to go against the fashion. They finally added the old and sorta out-of-dated protocol to their “brand new” email service — gmail. It seems to be a little bit unreasonable. Why should we download everything to our Outlook everyday when we get such a big server space for email storage?
Anyway, let’s just have a close look at what they just added and how it works. Here’s a screenshot of my Gmail settings and the Outlook 2003 how-to:
